Guggimon "Yakuza" - Superplastic Custom
Hey hey!
First custom of the year! Took me long enough…. I don’t even know what I’ve been doing since January! But I do know that I have been working on this one for what feels like forever.
Turned out he would be quite a challenge this one. Now generally a painted commission like this one would cost you a bit less than a sculpted commission. What I learnt from this though, is that a paint job isn’t always quicker and easier than a sculpt. The detail I have put in to this custom is beyond anything I have ever done before. And don’t get me wrong, I loved every second of it. But it also set me back roughly three weeks in my planner, and that is something that has a knock-on effect to all my other work.
These are things that happen every now and then to be fair. Art is art after all and it doesn’t seem to be following any rules. Some things are easier than they seem and some are much harder than they seem. What I have to take away from this though, is that I have learnt something new. And it’s been a while since I took something on that was completely out of my comfort zone. But from taking this on, I have excelled at my painting skills, and in my creative thingking and process. It has opened up a world of new possibilites. It has given me confidence as well.
This was a commission, so he won’t be up for sale. I would really love to create more of these types of customs in the future. Commissions list will be back open come July/August time, depending a bit on set backs amongst other things. For now I have to dive back into the studio and try to finish this months custom, and try to catch up on my tight schedule.
Thanks to Matthew, who gave me the chance to work on this beauty, and for trusting me in taking on sucha new and in a way daunting task. It’s been fantastic and a learning curve to say the least! Hah!
