Custom Buffmonster - Destroyer
Hey guys and galls!
Time for the very first custom of 2022! I thought I’d go out strong, to begin with, and kinda set the tone for the rest of the year….LOL! Jokes aside, I really do think I have raised the bar a little with this one.
If I get to say so myself, I think that my style has matured a lot over the past year. I am leaning a different way and am moving further and further away from the cute. Over the past two years (roughly) I have been leaning more and more towards my old playing field, tattooing. It is something that keeps returning in my thoughts over and over again, and more or less every day lately. I wanted to take this Destroyer and put myself to the test a bit. Throughout the years of customising I have learnt so many new mediums and think I can say that I have learnt to master most of them. But never really put me to the test. This is what I wanted to do now, and needed this clean fairly simple platform to do so on.
The process has been extremely long, something I started last year. I used to sketch on it whilst watching TV in the evenings and slowly it grew into this fantastic Japanese inspired work of art. I was so excited to start painting it when the new year came and wanted to finish this before all the work of 2022 started dropping in. I needed to do something for me and for my mental health without any stress or feelings of “I should be doing something else”. So I took my time. I have taken me just over two weeks to finish the paint job and the intricacy is just beyond and where I have never been before.
I think the peonies are starting to become a bit of a trademark in my customs now, but I have generally kept them quite simple. This time they have way more detail than usual and I am trying to learn more about the anatomy of this beautiful flower. Though I don’t want to go full-on realistic I still think it is very important to know the basic anatomy of, well, anything. It is hard to portray things, even in a cartoony way, if you don’t know what they are made up of.
I will be working more along these lines this year and I am also setting one day a week aside for painting and drawing, just on plain old paper, which I rarely get the chance to do. I feel that I need to grow as an artist this year as I have felt a little bit trapped in my head as of recent. I feel that I have a lot more in me than what I have shown, both you and myself. So I am really looking forward to exploring the artist, which I think is hidden deep within me, this year.
With that, this Custom Destroyer is available from my Bigcartel Store straight away! The horns have not been glued in for the ease of shipping and to save any accidents. They are very easy to put back in place and they stay nicely in place without any adhesive.
Oh, I am so excited about this year and can’t wait to move on to the next custom. I’ve had some awesome commissions come in which I really can’t wait to show you all. I am still happy to take on more though so head on over to the commission’s list if you have something in mind!
